Color Mortars

While color mortar represents only a small portion of the total wall area in masonry construction (approximately 10-20 percent pending masonry unit size), its influence on the performance and aesthetics of a wall is significant. Mortar serves many important functions: it bonds units together into an integral structural assembly, seals joints against penetration by air and moisture, accommodates small movements within a wall, accommodates slight differences between unit sizes and bonds to joint reinforcement, ties and anchors so that all elements perform as an assembly.

Colored mortar can make a big impact on the aesthetics of a project, as well as mortar joint style. Color mortar emphasizes and highlights the various color characteristics of brick while the application, or joint style, will accentuate the lines and textural detail of the brick. Colored mortar is an architectural vision that is sometimes overlooked.

Glenwood colored mortars are engineered for maximum performance and consistency in the field. Each factory pre-blended batch is crafted using the highest quality ingredients and iron oxide pigments. This provides a consistent product and allows the mason to create a durable and beautiful project.
